Depending on the location of the joint and the severity of the injury will affect the type of surgical procedure undertaken. If the joint has undergone a general injury then, in most cases, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery will suffice, however for more chronic cases where the ligament requires complete reconstruction then most often an ‘open’ surgery is undertaken.

This type of operation is performed via ‘keyhole’ surgery in which minute holes provide the access point for tiny fibre tapes to be inserted which allow for sutures to loop over small titanium buttons which hold the surrounding bone in the correct position, allowing the joint and surrounding tendons and ligaments to heal.
Joint Reconstruction Surgery
A small incision is made near the injured joint in order to expose the area. Any surrounding muscle is then elevated and flipped in order to further expose the joint. From here any debris is cleared and reconstruction of the joint is undertaken with the fixation of small screws, nylon ropes and repair or replacement of tendons and ligaments.
