Established in 2003 by a small group of engineers and surgeons, Premia Spine set out on a mission to improve options for spinal surgery. Their particular focus was on the fact that patients were able to gain hip and knee replacements, however this wasn’t available for the spine. Only spinal fusion surgery existed at the time, but instead Premia Spine wanted to create a motion solution instead for spinal surgeries.
With over 15 years of research and development, Premia Spine achieved their vision of creating a motion preservation device for spinal seurgery, the TOPS system. Specifically designed for spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis, the TOPS system offers a true joint replacement system. Offering a complete alternative option for spinal fusion surgery by instead providing joint replacement surgery for the spine. During surgery, a form of spinal canal narrowing is used by replacing the soft and bony tissues removed during decompression surgery. The TOPS system is then used between segments L2 and L5, which are most commonly affected by lumbar stenosis.
TOPS System
The TOPS System is a mechanical implant designed for Spinal Stenosis and Spondylolisthesis, offering patients with a wide range of motion and stability after surgery. Due to this motion preservation design, after undergoing surgery the patient will be able to move in a number of directions including flexion, extension, axial rotation and lateral bending. This unique design is something that only TOPS can offer and isn’t available with spinal fusion surgery.
