Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that replaces missing bone in order to repair bone fractures that are extremely complex. At Lindare Medical we can supply a range of donor bone products to hospitals across the UK including Allograft Cancellous Bone, Accell Connexus Putty and OrthoBlast II.
All our bone products are HCA approved and have full traceability which is monitored in accordance to the HCA license requirements and will be delivered on a tracked 24 hour delivery service.
What is Bone Graft Surgery?
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure which uses transplanted bone to repair an existing damaged bone. The treatment can be used for repairing bone almost anywhere in the body, and commonly the surgeon will use donated bone to perform the graft.
Most of the skeleton consists of bone matrix and this hard material helps give the bones strength. Inside the matrix lives bone cells which make and maintain the matrix, helping to repair and heal bone when necessary. When a bone is broken, the healing process begins and as long as the break isn’t too large, the bone cells in the matrix can repair it. However, sometimes a fracture results in a large loss of bone and in these cases the bone may not be able to fully heal without a bone graft.
During a bone graft procedure a surgeons will insert a new piece of donated bone in the place where the bone needs to heal. The cells in this new bone and then seal themselves around the old bone to help it grow and gain strength.
